Tongue cancer
There are two parts of the tongue:  The oral part or front two thirds that you can easily see, and the part near the base called the pharynx.  You can have oral cancer, or oropharyngeal cancer.  This type of cancer develops in squamous cells, the flat skin-like cells that cover the lining of the mouth, nose, throat, larnyx, and thyroid, and tends to spread rapidly.  Tongue cancer is often grouped with other cancers of the mouth including lips, pallet, gums, cheeks, and floor. These are known as oral cavity cancer.

The following symptoms may be caused by another unrelated condition:

• White or red patch on the tongue, gums,  or lining of the mouth

• Pain or difficulty in swallowing or chewing

• Pain in the ear

• Unusual bleeding, pain, or numbness in the mouth

• Change in the voice or difficulty in speaking

• A sore throat that does not go away

• Skin lesion, lump, or ulcer on the tongue

• Sores in the mouth

• Difficulty moving the tongue

Modern medicine does not know the cause of cancer, and what it calls prevention is really just early detection.  Rather than watch for symptoms, it would be more responsible to learn what causes cancer and the means to prevent it.  And if you get it, it would be better to start with natural methods that cause no harm, than to do cut-and-burn surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation which can be a last resort.
